NSW: Bushfires worst than 2001 Christmas, says Carr=2
Mr Koperberg said areas of most concern today will be Sutherland, Menai, Illawong,and Alfords Point, as well as north at Berowra, Galston, Hornsby Heights and even Warringahand Ku-Ring-Gai.
Interstate firefighters have been put on alert and may be called in to help today,while crews from further afield in NSW have also been called in, he said.
"Winds are expected to reach gale force today ... across Sydney," he told reporters.
"They will average 40-50kmh, they will strengthen this afternoon ahead of another frontwith gusts perhaps 70-80 and stronger on the southern ranges and perhaps in the Hunter(Valley)."
Mr Carr said Strike Force Tronto, the police taskforce set up to investigate bushfirearson, was currently on the job to determine the cause of the fires.
Mr Carr also said he would release details of a new bushfire appeal tomorrow.
