Fed: Australia's population still under 20mln

New figures show Australia's population grew slightly in the 12 months to June but
remains under the 20 million milestone.

The population reached 19,387,000 in June 2001 -- up 229,500 or 1.2 per cent over the year.

All states and territories increased except for Tasmania where the population remains
fairly stable.

Population growth was fastest in Queensland, up 1.7 per cent, followed by Western Australia
and Victoria.

New South Wales, the Northern Territory, the ACT and South Australia recorded smaller increases.
