Qld: Mum sentenced to jail for raping daughter

BRISBANE, Feb 15 AAP - A judge has described a woman who was today sentenced to jail
for raping her daughter as "entirely remorseless".

The 41-year-old woman, who cannot be named, sobbed today as she was sent to jail for
three-and-a-half years by the Brisbane District Court.

She was found guilty yesterday by a jury of one count of rape.

During the trial the court was told she digitally raped her eight-year-old daughter
at her home at Donnybrook, north of Brisbane, between November 2005 and February 2006.

The prosecution suggested she may have used a vibrator on the young child, however,
Judge Milton Griffin did not accept there was sufficient evidence to prove this.

The girl did not sustain any physical injuries from the assault, but the court was
told she has ongoing trust issues.

Judge Griffin today told the woman that her actions were "disgusting" and "traumatic"

for her daughter.

"All children in our society must be protected (and) those who are primarily called
upon to protect them are their parents," he said.

"You were in a position of trust. You disgracefully and grossly betrayed that trust".

Judge Griffin found the woman was "entirely remorseless" for her actions.
